My blessings had to start a long time before I was born.
Would it have been when Mom and Dad well in love?
Would it have been when my grandparents met and married?
Would it have been in Europe many centuries ago
when any ancestors of mine
met and procreated?
Somewhere in history
there had to be a flame of something
that started a fire
that worked its way through history
and ended up being me . . .
January 11, 1951,
around supper time
(Mom always said
she just remembered she sent Dad home
to have supper with Lee,
he had never eaten without one of them around.)
Paula Sue Gaumer Tooke.
A big THANK YOU
goes out to Dr. Lowell J. Hillis . . .
the 1st "masked" face I saw at birth
Not only did he bring me into the world,
but he kept me from bringing into the world
when I wasn't ready.
Maybe he is the beginning?
How do I decide where to start with my blessings?
I know I want to recognize
all those who have made me
ME . . .
but where do I start?
I must decide this
before I start
"Counting My Blessings."
Now, you are wondering why I posted a picture of a wedding cake display.
This is cake table from my wedding.
The small, top cake
was to have snowflakes on it
just like the other cakes.
But I had brought my parents wedding cake topper
to b e used on the table as decoration.
When we saw the table I was so pleased . . .
Rhonda had taken off the snowflakes
and added Mom & Dad 's topper.
So interesting . . .
Something important to their beginning as a family
appeared when my family started.

I've read a few comments here and there about the Counting My Blessing sampler and I just wanted to thank you! You have encouraged me by letting me know I am not alone in being nervous about getting started and having thoughts going off in various directions AND you mentioned doing a running stitch which I like very much! I was thinking I didn't want to be committed to 100 individual squares and was trying to figure my way around that. So...thank you! ~Leslie
