This posting should have been a part of the last posting,
but it wasn't completed soon enough.
Block #22
Notice,
I didn't say
"able to sing."
I said
"able to sing IN choir."
There wee always a lot of extra voices
to drown me out
if needed.
I made some GREAT friends
in high school choir.
We altos seemed to stick together.
Not he
"frilly" sopranos,
we were down at the bottom
but needed to be there
so the sopranos could sound good :o}
Favorite memory:
When it was your birthday
someone would start singing
Happy Birthday
and the rest of the choir would join in.
(It was always fun to see
whop you were singing too.)
Poor Al Gleitz . . . rest his soul . . .
we must have sung Happy Birthday to him
1,000 times one year.
It was so "cute"
to see this football player
blush when we put his name into the song.
And,
even better yet,
Mr. Huffman always made him stand up,
just like everyone else did
on their actual birthdays.
Reminds me of the saying,
"Simple things for Simple People."
And weren't we all pretty simple when we were in high school?
Dear Lord,
Thank you again for the ability to listen to, sing and enjoy your music. The times You so graciously allowed me to participate in music, while in high school, were the best of times . . .never once the worst of times. Granted, until I left choir the 2nd semester of my senior year . . had to wok on a performance night and I chose work over the performance . . I was going to college the following fall and needed the money . . .I never had a study hall . . . but the music was worth it. When I finally made it into that Study Hall, it was 1st period and I had nothing to do . . it had all gotten done the night before.
Perhaps that was another plus of music . . it taught me to organize my class time well so I wouldn't have lots of homework . . . another of Your blessings in disguise.
Yes, Dear Lord, you do work in Mysterious Ways.
Amen.

It's nice if the choir sounds good (so you're probably not bad if you are in the choir), but I learned a long time ago that God doesn't care what we sound like (in human terms). If we are singing to, for or because of God, it is a joy to Him.
Hmmm. I've been called a dumb (because melody is easier than harmony) soprano, but never a "frilly" soprano.
Singing IS a blessing! (whatever part we sing)
