Block #7
sits right beside block #5.
Since block #5
is my brother Lee
is my brother Lee
block #7 is his wife,
my sister-in-law.
Cindy.
Cindy.
It took me a little while
to decide
what I was going to make for her.
Then,
it was as clear as daylight . .
she likes wine
wine comes from grapes
so make a grape arbor.
TA-DA,
A grape arbor it is.
I had my fingers crossed
that the grapes (french knots)
didn't look like the Lilacs
I used for Mom.
(French knots made from the same thread.)
As luck would have it . .
they look different.
Block #8
What an interesting item to make
for Grandpa Gaumer.
There is something in my
memory bank
memory bank
that tells me that Grandpa
wore boots that had buttons on the sides.
Not high top shoes like in Victorian Times
they were more like a dress version of
work boots.
I couldn't find a good resource
for this drawing.
I did find some shoes/boots
that were modern replicas
of buttoned boots
but they
were from a much earlier time.
were from a much earlier time.
I sketched a boot
that would fit
in the 1" x 1" square.
that would fit
in the 1" x 1" square.
I used the picture I found
as a resource
for the flap and button placement.
I finished the boot last night
and added the flap this evening.
Now,
I need to find either buttons
or beads,
to finish off his boots.
And,
if I am lucky,
I might be able to find a picture
that shows him in his boots.
Now,
I have now completed
my immediate Tree of Life
You can see that it is a small tree,
and even by adding
nieces.
nephews,
aunts
and cousins,
it will not be much bigger.
But, that's fine with me.
I grew up knowing only this family
so,
to me,
it was perfect . . .
and that is the way I look at it today
the PERFECT Tree of Life
Dear Lord,
Thank you for allowing Grandpa Gaumer to live long enough so he got to see me grow from a baby into a child. I wish he had lived longer. I would have liked to have remembered him but at least I have pictures with him. I may have been to young to have complete memories, but I know they were made.
And, Lord . . . thank you for giving Lee a wife and mother for his children. It is so hard to believe that he only lived at home 22 years and now they have been married for 40 years. There have been scary times in their marriage when Allison was little. But through it all, You made them strong and they faced it all head on, and have become a stronger unit for it.
I don't know why You decided to give me a small immediate Family Tree, but what you did give me, I am eternally grateful for.
Amen

Love what you say at the end. As the family I come from is not a close knit one, I have always taught my kids to appreciate our own family.. It may be small but it's just right for us!.. And the note that my daughter wrote me for Mother's Day showed me just how much she does love me and her family! That note was the best Mother's Day gift I got this year! ~tina
Oh Paula -
Almost every time I read your blog I end up with tears in my eyes. You have a way with words. Or maybe it is just the way you express your feelings in those words.
I love the way your tree of life has come out.

Hi Paula -
You asked on my blog where "my room" is. I have no idea how to answer you on my blog. So, I thought it might be ok to answer you here.
When I took the pictures showing the loft I was in the living room. The house is an open concept. The living and dining rooms along with the kitchen are all one big room. The bedrooms are parallel with this big room. My room is the middle bedroom. When my daughter moved out - DS took her room and I got his.
If you know how to comment to a post without making a new post --- could you share that with me?
