Carousel Music
Just looking at the words
makes me smile.
I grew up in a town
that had a Denzel Carousel.
How many nights,
in the summers,
did we spend riding on it
and trying to "catch"
the brass ring?
That was a right of passage
in Logan . . .
being "tall" enough
that you could
"catch" the ring on your own.
Finally, you didn't need
Mom or Dad to
"catch" them for you.
I now live "next door"
to the town where
Wurliter made there
Band Organs . . .
that is what the machine was called
that provides the music
on a Carousel.
A couple of Sunday's ago
there was a convention in Buffalo
of people who are collectors of
"automated music."
It was decided to have a "show"
on the grounds of the now empty
Wurlirzer factory.
They called it a
"Going Home" gathering . . .
machines that had been built
there years ago were
returning to where
they were made.
When we left I said to Gene,
"I sure am glad
I'm feeling better.
I can't imagine being here
in a depressed mood."
It was a wonderful visit
to the sounds
of my childhood.

This was so old yet so beautiful in it's plain-ness. |
Original rolls of music in original boxes. |
Band Organs were named for the daughters/grand-aughters of the original owners. |
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the sounds that eminate from a carousel. There have to be long, thin fingers on each note that reach out and gently pull one to their sound.
You arranged for them to appear just when I needed them. For that, I am thankful.
Amen

Beautiful squares! I remember we had a beautiful old carousel in our local mall, but they pulled it out and shipped it out of state, because it was too costly to repair and maintain. What a shame that was, I thought, as this particular mall is not doing so well in the first place, and that ride was a big reason for many parents and grandparents to bring their kids in for!! I'm glad both my kids could enjoy it before they shipped it out... Sorry I can't bring my grandkids (the ones I'm hoping for someday) to ride it too.. Anyways, this convention in Buffalo sounds like it was wonderful!!! From the pics, it looks like you had nice weather, and I'm so glad to hear you had a good time! ~tina
