Block 60

Christianity . . .
Yes,
I am a Christian.
More specific,
I am a member
of the denomination
know as
Disciples of Christ
(Christian Church).

There aren't
too many of us around.
Even when my
cousins lived in Gary
thee was only  one
Disciples of Christ
(Christian Church)
church.

I professed my faith
at 10 or 11  years old.
I can't remember
the exact year
but I do remember
it was on Good Friday.
Those in my
Sunday School class
had  been taking classes
with our minister.
The actual baptism
was to be on
Easter Sunday.

Well,
several of us
didn't want to be
baptised in front
of the whole church,
we knew it would be
FULL of people.

Rev. Neeriemer
allowed us to
be immersed in our
churches
baptismal
on Good Friday  afternoon.
Only our parents
were there.

I'm glad we did it that way.
We all
knew each other well
and knew each
others parents.
So it was
a comfortable experience.

Fate was with me
when I met Gene.
When I asked him
his  religion
he said Christian.
When asked what
denomination,
he responded,
"Disciples of Christ."

That almost sealed it!
How could a person
from Indiana
meet someone
from NY
who actually
belonged to
this same denomination.

Then,
when we were
talking to our minister,
Cameron Douglas,
before we got married
we found out that
his father had been
the Disciples of Christ
minister
in the town
right across the canal.

THEN,
we get a note
from Gene's Aunt Lois
with a picture of
she and Jerry
being married
by Rev. Douglas' father.

Now,
I new fate had
brought us together.

Our Father,
who art in Heaven
hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on Earth
as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day,
our daily bread
and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom,
and the Power,
and the Glory forever,

Amen.
