Block 64

Telephone
a blessing
I don't always like.

I absolutely
HATE
talking on the phone.
I
DESPISE
picking up the phone
and hearing the voice
of someone I
don't know.

Now that I've said that
the phone has become a friend.
It lets me hear
the  voices of
Lee and his family,
Aunt Ruth,
Marilyn
and Debbie
on the holidays.

On Christmas afternoon
Dad would always call
Aunt Ruth.
To this day
I still call her.
It's a great connection
to my childhood
PLUS
I get to get caught up
on what's going on in
my cousin's lives.

And Joyce . . .
when I REALLY miss home
I call her.
I know I will hear
her smile and laughter
over the phone.
Makes me feel like
she is right here.

So,
since 2006,
the telephone
has become a blessing.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving Alexander Graham Bell the knowledge to invent the telephone. I know that there had to be many other men who were working on the same thing, and there are THOUSANDS who have brought it to where it is today. But, without Alex, I wonder when the phone would have appeared.  It makes family reunions so immediate. And now that I live 8 hours from home, I have come to appreciate it.
Amen.
