Oh, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is
You're searching for good times
But just wait and see
You'll come running back
(I won't have to worry no more)
You'll come running back
(spend the rest of my life with you, baby)
You'll come running back to me .
~sung by The Rolling Stones
like the lyrics
to this song . . . but it was running through my mind
all the while I was
stitching my clock.
Time is a blessing.
One can:
have too much time on their hands, running out of time,
checking in on their time clock,
keeping time to a song,
taking, or giving, a time out,
have no time for someone else,
losing time,
gaining time,
wasting time,
time of day,
passing of time
etc,
etc,
etc.
Time is always around us.
Most people run their lives
according to the time.
Set the clock to get up.
Look at the clock to see if you overslept.
Check the clock in the car to make sure you are on time for work.
Keep looking at the clock all day to see how close it is to a break, or lunch, or time to leave.
Check the clock again in the car to see if you have time for an errand before you get home.
Check the calendar to see what time the kids activities are for the night.
Check the clock to see what time something is on the TV.
Check the clock to see if it's time for bed.
Time is always around us
and we have come to
depend on clocks
for our times.
Isn't it great
on those vacations,
or weekends,
when you don't have to be
a clock watcher?
I always liked it,
in the summer,
when Mom would say,
"Paula, Be home by dark."
No time,
just how light it was outside.
Now that I am retired,
the clock doesn't
rule my life like it did.
I still need it
for appointments,
getting hold of people
at work/home.
I probably use it more than that,
but sure not like I did
for the first 55 years
of my life.
Now,
I just wonder how many kids
can actually read a clock
with hands?
They are so accustomed to
clocks with changing numbers
or digital clocks.
I sort of miss hearing,
"It's a quarter to whatever time it is."
Whatever it is :45 lets me know
they are digital babies.
Dear Lord,
You made time . . you made a 24 hour day. Well, you made the length of a day, man made the decision as to how to divide the time into days, minutes and seconds . . let's not get into stop watch mili-seconds here.
You made the seasons, which marks the time of the year. Again, man made the decision on how to divide the year into months and weeks.
Thank you for giving us a way to keep track of the major events in our lives as well as the mundane tasks we need to do.
Amen.

Isn't there a song about 'Time just keeps on slipping into the future'? I can hear it but I have no idea who sings it.
